Heartland FC chairman, Hon. Goodfaith Chibuzo Etuemene said he was impressed by the sense of commitment to duty and zeal for survival being demonstrated by both the players and crew as they battle to stave off relegation from the premier league.
Etuemene who spoke on the phone from Manchester City, UK Sunday, said the effort has begun to pay off as the team migrated from 18th position to 15th position on the league table after three games in charge but cautioned that relegation threat was not yet over for the team.
“I would like them to continue with this new spirit. I appreciate the courage by both the players and the technical crew so far but just know that the threat of relegation is not yet over. There should be no relent until we’re safe,” he advised.
The chairman also revealed additional progress in his recent tour as the sole distributors of LIG company products in Turkey, CS Communications through the help of another UK out-fit, Bashlyks Global has offered to provide sets of jerseys to be won by Heartland next season at no cost to the club.
Etuemene said he has succeeded in opening an international channel for the ‘Naze Millionaires’ and that any player whose ambition is to play football abroad would have only himself to blame if he is not part of Heartland next season.
It is not only about surviving relegation, it is also necessary to give your best so that you (players) can be part of this great future we are thinking about. That great future is around the corner, he added.
Victories over Nasarawa Utd of Lafia and 3SC of Ibadan have helped Heartland move out of the drop zone but the team is in dire need of both home and away points to scale over the relegation waters permanently.
This weekend, the team will travel to Akure for a game with less troubled Sunshine Stars FC and the Heartland chairman is praying for a decent playing environment to enable the two teams display a classy game that Nigerians can be proud of.
