Jurgen Klopp has rubbished suggestions he needs to further strengthen his squad after Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley.
Liverpool were second best throughout at Turf Moor, with concerns raised about a lack of bite in midfield and the use of James Milner as a left-back in place of the dropped Alberto Moreno.
When asked whether the display will force him to return to the transfer market, Klopp replied: “If one game should change my mind then I would be a real idiot. I know you [questioners] would all buy a left-back but a midfielder?”
And the German was equally dismissive when it was suggested his side were out-fought in midfield: “I love your job because we can have the ball and then we need to be the best fighters. Emre Can was on the bench, he had a back problem, Lucas Leiva is injured and you ask me for a hard midfield player,” he said. “The answer is I don’t know – we will see.”
Despite the poor performance, Klopp insisted he would only be angry with his players if he thought it would serve a purpose.
“I was not angry at half-time,” he said. “If being angry makes sense, I can be angry with you in a moment. If I feel I have to put the finger on the spot I can do it. They know it already.”
