Pillars not giving up on title’

Four-time champions Kano Pillars will not throw in the towel as regards their aspirations of winning a fifth Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title this season.

Pillars currently sit in ninth place on the NPFL standings, eight points adrift of the leaders Wikki Tourists with seven matches remaining.

Left back of Pillars, Jonathan Zikiye believes Sai Masu Gida can still pull off a massive coup by emerging champions at the end of the current campaign.

“We can still do it (win the title) but if that is to happen we must win at least one game away from home before the season.

“I also know that if our dream is to be realised we cannot afford to drop any more points at home but we also know we need the sides above us (on the log) to drop points.

“There is belief among the players, coaches and management staff that we can win the title this season,”

Zikiye joined Pillars at the start of the season and he has been impressed with the structure at the Kano club which he reckons is among the best in the country.

“I heard so much about Kano Pillars before I joined the club and I can tell you that everything I heard is true.

“Everything here is so professional and well-structured. The fans too are amazing and very passionate.

“One of the things that has impressed me the most is the playing style of the club; we play the same way whether it is at home or away from home.

“We always play attractive, attacking football aimed at achieving victory.

“The objective for the players of this great football club is to win the NPFL title or deliver a continental ticket at the end of the season,” he said.

Pillars will next play against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, as the NPFL enters match day 33.
