ZESCO UNITED DRAW WITH WYDAD FINISH SECOND AND MEET SUNDOWNS

Zesco United today drew 1-1 with Wydad Casablanca at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to finish second in Group A.

Zesco United entered the match without influential midfielder Clatous Chama who was suspended but it didnt show as Mwape Mwelwa and John Chingandu pulled the strings in midfield.

Wydad who were visiting zambia for the third time were looking for thier first win in Zambia but were out of sorts in the early minutes of the match as Zesco pressured and it came as no surprise when David Owino headed in John Chinadu’s corner in the 22nd minute.

Zesco United continued to pressure against an out of sorts Wydad but couldnt add a second as the match went into halftime with Zesco Leading 1-0.

Wydad seemed to have reorganised in the secondhalf as Zesco put the foot of the pedal and Wydad eqialsed when Nigerian striker Chisom Chikatara scored after his curler from outside the box beat Jacob Banda.

Zesco United tried to get back into the match as veteran Maybin Mwaba came on for Khondwani Mtonga but Zesco just couldnt get through on goal as Wydad had the best chances in injurytime when Gabonese striker Fabrice Ondama missed a free header which went wide.

The match ended 1-1 as Wydad top the group on 11 points while Zesco United move to 9 points.
