Emmanuel Adebayor failed to secure a move to Lyon as he was smoking and drinking during an interview.
Adebayor is without a club since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of his contract in the summer.
The striker has struggled to find a new club since, and was even linked with a return to Tottenham at one point.
He was thought to be close to joining Ligue Un side Lyon, but club president Bruno Genesio has revealed why talks broke down.
“We had a place in our squad for Manu, so I arranged to meet him for a coffee in Lyon,” he is quoted as saying by the Sun.
“But, to my surprise, when he arrived he asked for a shot of whisky in his coffee. He also had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
“What followed confirmed my first impression that there was no room for him at our club,” said Genesio, who added that the meeting “began badly”.
