England eased to a 2-0 victory over Malta in their World Cup qualifier as Gareth Southgate began his temporary reign with a win.
Daniel Sturridge atoned for dreadful earlier miss when he steered a fine header into the far corner following Jordan Henderson’s whipped cross in the 29th minute.
Dele Alli gave the hosts a two-goal half-time lead when he poked home a loose ball seven minutes before the break.
England enjoyed all the possession again the second half but they failed to breech the Malta defence, despite the introductions of Marcus Rashford and Jamie Vardy.
