Joe Allen rescued a point for Stoke as Manchester United chucked away victory late on in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
United dominated the first half, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s puppetry and the movement of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard causing Stoke all sorts of problems.
However, Potters keeper Lee Grant made three top-class saves to deny the Red Devils in the opening period and he was the main reason the teams went in level at the half-time interval.
On 67 minutes, Jose Mourinho decided to make a double substitution, bringing on Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney for Juan Mata and Lingard.
And the substitutes made an immediate impact on 69 minutes, when Geoff Cameron’s tackle on Rooney inadvertently landed at Martial’s feet and the Frenchman bent a cute effort beyond Grant.
Despite not having may chances, Stoke found the back of the net in the 81st-minute to rescue a point. David de Gea fumbled an attempt from Glen Johnson to Jonathan Walters whose effort deflected onto the bar but Allen is there to thump the ball into the goal.
The point moves Stoke off the bottom of the league, while United are up to sixth.
