Middlesbrough 0-1 Watford: Holebas stings Boro

Jose Holebas’ second-half stunner was enough to give Watford all three points on the road in their 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon.

The only action of note in the first half was referee Roger East’s refusal to give Antonio Barragan a second yellow card after he pulled back Hornets striker Isaac Success on the left.

It took until the 54th-minute for Watford to open the scoring at the Riverside Stadium and it was courtesy of wonderful strike out of nowhere from Holebas.

The Greek international took a touch to control before rifling a 25-yard effort into the top corner of the net, leaving Boro keeper Victor Valdes helpless.

Success had the best chance after that for Watford, the Nigerian striker dazzled the defence with stepovers before a good effort at goal is held by Valdes.

In truth, it was a poor performance from Aitor Karanka’s men, who struggled to create chances all game.
