David Gold has revealed the extent of West Ham’s frustrations at trying to sign AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca this summer.
The Hammers’ transfer business has come under fire following the club’s dire start to the season, with none of the 11 players signed over the summer having made a positive impact.
Co-owner Gold often spoke of their ambitions to sign a high-profile goalscorer as the club were linked with moves for the likes of Bacca, Michy Batshuayi and Alexandre Lacazette.
A fee was understood to have been agreed with AC Milan for Bacca, only for the Colombia international to reject a move to the Olympic Stadium.
And addressing criticism from supporters on Twitter, Gold posted the following messages:
Graham for your information we were the 8th biggest spenders in the PL we also broke our transfer record with the signing of Ayew. dg https://t.co/lT2KNEca9J

Bacca wouldn’t come for love nor money and the only other option was to kidnap him which of course is illegal. dg https://t.co/ubfM8ox6Qt

West Ham eventually ended their pursuit of a striker by signing Simone Zaza from Juventus, although reports suggest the Italy international’s loan deal could be cut short in January.
