Relegated City Stars put up a spirited fight at Ruaraka grounds in Nairobi to deny desperate Ushuru the badly needed three points in a barren draw on Friday.
The Kawangware-based side demonstrated confidence against the taxmen who needed nothing short of a win to enhance their safety in the top flight league.
Jimmy Bageya was particularly impressive for City Stars, constantly running from deep with the ball to torment the Ushuru defense.
Sofapaka will have looked at this result with renewed hope as they face Mathare United on Saturday knowing a win will keep them in the dogged relegation fight up to the final day of the competition.
They are on 22 points with a game in hand compared to Ushuru’s 26.
Ushuru coach Kenyatta was obviously disappointed with the performance of his boys.
“We needed to win and everybody knew that but we have ended up splitting points with a team that had nothing to lose. We controlled the match totally but somehow we couldn’t turn that to our advantage. Anyhow, we still have one more game and our fate lies in our hands,” he said.
