2016 / 2017 NPFL SEASON: A LOOK AHEAD….(PLATEAU UTD VS SUNSHINE STARS)

Attention will shift to the Rwam Pam Stadium on Sunday, 22nd January 2017 as the tin city of Jos play host to a week 3 match of the Nigeria Professional Football League between home side, Plateau United and the visitors, Sunshine Stars of Akure.

The encounter which begins at 4 pm will once again afford both teams the opportunity to battle for the maximum points at stake.

Both teams go into the match beaming with confidence after recording victories in their last set of matches on match day 2.

Plateau United got their 2nd win in a row after humiliating former champions, Enyimba by 3-1 in Jos while Sunshine Stars, on the other hand, got the better of bitter rivals and brothers, 3SC of Ibadan by 1-0 in Akure.

Sunshine Stars playing away from home will throw everything into the match to ensure victory on the road this season for the 1st time after failing to do so in Calabar against Enyimba.

Passions and emotions will be at stake as both teams trade tackles in the cold city of Jos for the previous three (3) points.

The match which is expected to be highly entertaining and explosive will be decided by lots of factors…

PLAYERS INFLUENCE.

The quality, commitments, and determination on the part of the players that will be on parade will go a long way in determining where the pendulum swings at the end of 90 minutes.

With both teams boasting of quality, young and experienced players, the battle is expected to be fierce on the pitch.

Sunshine Stars are expected to keep the team that did well against 3SC in Akure, with few changes expected.

Oke Oghagotewho who missed the Akure party is expected to return while the game comes too soon for Captain Abe Sunday and Kola Anubi as coach Kayode Olujohunge looks to win his 1st away match of the new season.

Coach Kennedy Boboye will keep faith with the team that took Enyimba to the cleaners with players like John Gaadi, John Shuaibu, Daniel Itodo, Oghene Elijah,  Lazarus Fan, Golbe Elisha, Hamisu Sale, Sunday Ingbede, John Kim and Philip Azango.

SIDELINES…..

Both teams share lots in common in terms of players and technical inputs as the current coach of Plateau Utd, Kennedy Boboye, an indigene of Ondo State, was formerly in charge of Sunshine Stars while Plateau United players like John Gaadi, John Shuaibu, Oghene Elijah, Emmanuel James, Akure basedKabiru Ayinde and Olowo Emmanuel were formerly on the payrAkure-based team.

Their roles will be key.

THE RIVALRY….

There is not much to talk about as far as the rivalry between the two teams is concerned.

Both teams have clashed several times in competitive and friendly situations, with the matches producing spectacular results and performances.

In the last two (2) meetings, Sunshine Stars have been the better team as the Owena Whales have avoided defeats.
