Preseason: Gombe united, Niger Tornadoes played draw

Gombe United football club today played a barren match with Niger Tornadoes in a highly contested friendly at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) main bowl.

 

The match which kicked off at half past four in the evening saw the Savannah scorpions parading some of their new signings to proof their worth.
It was an intriguing and entertaining first half with Gombe United dictating the pace of the game but failed to found the back of the net.Tornadoes missed a golden chance deep in the box after Babalo float in a cross from the right flank, new signing Ebenezer Odeyemi watched helplessly his header went over the bar as Tornadoes tried to find the back fo the net in the closing stages of the encounter, Gombe united goalkeeper parried former Heartland forward Chidebere Ajoku header to the wrong side of the post.

The tempo of the game remained the same in the second stanza with Mannir Ubale missing a clear goal chance and Austin Osakpommuyu hitting the bar after finding himself in front goal, but to know avail as the two sides shared the spoils.


In an interview shortly after the match, Manu Garba, Gombe United’s Technical Adviser says the match was satisfactory even though his players gave room for the opponents to play and more work would be done on marking discipline and mobility.


On the closed camping, Manu explained that “the aim has been achieved, as the players are responding well to training, no distraction and they get absolute rest after training”.


He added” we may likely play a match on Thursday morning before we proceed to Katsina”.
