Liverpool to escape punishment for alleged tapping-up of Virgil van Dijk

• Premier League to take no action over Southampton defender’s non-transfer
• Chelsea and Manchester City remain interested in Holland international

Liverpool are set to escape punishment from the Premier League for the alleged tapping-up of the Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, with the heat over the issue having rather fizzled out.

It had ignited at the beginning of June, when Southampton were furious to read that Van Dijk was keen to join Liverpool, having been won over, in part, by the vision of the club’s manager, Jürgen Klopp.
