Exeter unhappy as tribunal tells Chelsea to pay £2.5m for Ethan Ampadu

• League Two side say £2.5m fee ‘sends out wrong message’

Exeter City have said they are “disappointed for football” after a tribunal determined Chelsea should pay the League Two side up to £2.5m for the promising Wales international Ethan Ampadu.

The club’s chairman, Julian Tagg, has expressed concern over what message it will send to academy staff and lower league clubs developing homegrown players. Ampadu, who is 17, moved to Chelsea last summer and has played seven times.
