Wenger refuses to create Mourinho controversy

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to describe his relationship with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho ahead of their clash on Saturday.

The Frenchman has never tasted victory in the Premier League against Mourinho in 11 previous meetings between the pair.

United find themselves six points behind Arsenal going into Saturday’s early kick-off at Old Trafford, while the Gunners are only two points off leaders Liverpool.

Wenger and Mourinho have had an intense rivalry in the past but the Arsenal boss wouldn’t get drawn into a war of words ahead of the glamour fixture.

“I don’t think I have to describe our relationship. I will shake hands with him,” Wenger told reporters at a pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“I won against every manager in the world in my 20 years, I understand people want to create controversy, but that doesn’t make the game.

“He fights for his team, I fight for mine.

“You do not play against a manager, you play against a team.

“That’s the important thing.”
